American Bureau of Shipping issues Approval in Principle for the 15 MW offshore system

After roughly nine months of review, ABS issues an Approval in Principle (AiP) for the CLS Wind 15 MW offshore wind turbine installation system concept design. ABS is one of the world's leading maritime classification societies.

The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has issued an Approval in Principle (AiP) for the CLS Wind offshore wind turbine installation system concept design for 15 MW offshore wind turbines, on 2 May 2024. The AiP follows roughly nine months of technical review covering structural design, operational envelope, and safety case.

ABS is one of the world’s leading maritime classification societies and one of the most authoritative voices on offshore engineering. An AiP is not a class certification (that comes later, against a built unit), but it is a substantive classification-society marker that the proposed design meets the relevant standards in principle, and a strong signal to operators, OEMs, and offshore wind developers.

The AiP letter is held in the data room and made available under NDA on request to serious commercial counterparties.
